I was introduced to Pinterest only a mere few months ago. I love it, yet sometimes I wish I had never been introduced because I spend way too much time on it. I’ve found time slips me while I’m on the site. Possibilities seem endless and I have discovered I am a chef, a baker, a fashionista and a crafter.
In the beginning I thought Pinterest was going to be a fad. I honestly did not even believe it would ever catch on in the first place. I began back in May, when a co-worker invited me via email. Since then it has grown two, if not three fold. This, what I describe as an online bulletin board, has users of all ages and I don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon.
Generally, I use Pinterest once or twice a week. During school breaks, when I actually have free time, I will use it a little more often..aka…when I’m bored. I like to repin items I think are cool and would like to buy occasionally, but more often I repin desserts and foods that I think look good. I absolutely love cooking, so Pinterest has helped me discover new recipes on blogs and websites, among other things. I have recommended Pintrest to many of my co-workers and friends for different reasons. Depending on their hobbies, I know they can make use of it in some way or another.

Pinterest is not only a good way for college students to procrastinate. It also has a lot of real world value as well, especially from a public relations standpoint. Every pin links you back to its original source. As a company you can create pins and it will potentially be shared with thousands in an instant. If these people click the pin, they will be directed directly to the company’s website, and from there, they are likely to decide to explore more. With the help of Pinterest, the company can get more activity on their website which may help sell services, gain more interest in events and so much more.
Whether you use Pinterest for business or fun, it is increasingly becoming more popular each day. If you use Pinterest, in what ways do you use it?

Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day or “Singles Awareness Day?”
For me, it honestly depends on the year. I remember when I was younger; my mom would always give my brothers and me gifts and bake us cute little cookies. As the years went on, boyfriends came and went, but my mom still kept on her tradition of giving us gifts and the cute little cookies. Whether I was single or in a relationship, I always had these things to look forward to.
This year, I was expecting something from my boyfriend since he had hounded me quite a few times to get some ideas, but not my mom. I mean, I am a 21 year old senior in college.
Well, yesterday I absolutely loved the gift from my boyfriend, but getting an email from UPS telling me I had a package from my mom was quite the surprise. As I opened it I almost knew what to expect, yet the moment I saw my cookie from my mom, a wrapped gift and a card, my heart melted. No matter how old I am, it never gets old, therefore the best Valentine’s Day gift I’ve ever received is my mom’s thoughtful and heart felt gifts. On top of that, having that consistency year to year helps me stay a kid at heart!
On the other hand, I am not sure I have received any bad gifts per se. Most of the time, when Valentine’s Day rolls around, I’m single, so only a few people have had the chance to mess up. However, if I ever do receive a gift I do not like very much, I doubt I would tell the person. As the old saying goes:
“It’s not the gift; it’s the thought that counts.”
Saying that, I have been known to inform people exactly what not to get me. The list is very short: no stuffed animals and no super smelly flowers. Normally if I do receive these things, it’s given to me as a joke, which I’m ok with because I love sarcasm and humor!
Given all of this personal Valentine’s Day information, I believe I have a good solution to persuade the public to buy from me if I worked for a card company, florist or chocolate manufacturer. Create a humorous campaign for those who are not in love. Promote “Singles Awareness Day” instead. I see people all the time have “valentine’s” that are nothing more than friends. A co-worker even told me she was going to wear black on Valentines Day in remorse (she didn’t actually do it!). I’m not positive of the statistics, but there are a lot of single people in the world. Heck, even though I’m in a relationship, like I said before, I enjoy humor, so I would even purchase something from this company!
Whether you are single, dating, in a relationship or anything else, in my opinion, Valentines Day should be fun. Don’t take it too seriously, but let those you love know you care. It can be a significant other, your family or your friends, I just suggest not to let the day get you down.

Public relations, in its simplest terms, can almost define itself. Relating a company or organization to their public. Given this (extremely diluted) definition, what better way to get connected with an audience than social media?
I’m not sure about you, but social media has changed me. Even more so, social media has changed the world of public relations. PR professionals use it all the time in many different ways. Social media has allowed companies and organizations:
To be more transparent and authentic
Have the ability to communicate instantly and in real time with people
around the globe
Have stronger and more engaging relationships with the public
To obtain more information about their public and gather it quicker
These changes can be viewed as positive and negative. With instant communication, if people with little or no public relations experience are relaying an incorrect or bad message, millions have the potential to see it in a moment. There have been many instances where people believe they can post whatever they want on social media sites and they are invincible. This is not true by any means. People have lost jobs, not been hired for jobs and gotten in trouble several other ways because they are not using social media properly.
For a company to make their social media successful, more times than not, they need people posting who have public relations or related experience. This allows the company and organization to reach their public in the correct manner. With public relations experience, the social media will be professional and create an engaging relationship with the consumer.
Having the correct people doing a company’s social media turns that positive into a negative. Good messages are instant and can reach millions in a moment, making the company or organization’s relationship with its public grow stronger.
All and all, I believe social media has brought many wonderful changed to public relations-as long as it is used properly.
Me I love social media. I use it in my soon-to-be-at-least-I-hope-profession-hint-hint-I-am-job-hunting! :) It entertains me between my classes. Most of all, I can see what all of my favorite companies and friends are up to. All. The. Time. Yep, I love social media…that is…until that picture your childhood friend posts from years ago with braces and and awkward smile pops up.
You all now know my opinion on reading books and watching movies based on them, but check these blogs out and read about their opinions:

It seems like many movies these days are adapted from books-even songs now (i.e. The Christmas Shoes). I hear arguments all the time about the book being better than the movie and vice versa. It sparks a lot of interesting conversations. I’ve even gotten into a few heated (but friendly) conversations myself.
If I had the chance to read the book, watch the adapted movie or both, I most certainly would choose both. I enjoy being able to compare and contrast both forms of media. I love the ability to see what I envisioned in the book play out on the big screen. These days, however, my time is very limited as a senior in college, a working young lady, a member of organizations and attempting to have some sort of social life, sometimes this option is not really an option at all.
Before college, I always read the book first. Sadly, I cannot remember the last time I read a book before I watch the movie. The most terrible thing about this is: 9 times out of 10 I think the book is much better. Maybe after graduation I will have some spare time and have the ability to catch up on my reading. Ok, ok probably not…I did say maybe.
Here are some of my personal favorite books later turned movies:
And a not-so-favorite (although, admittedly I did read all four books):
Here are two blogs I read this week. They both have some great bucket lists with things very near and dear to my heart that I’m sure you’ll love reading about too!
Marybeth http://marybethcal.wordpress.com:
I always love reading your posts! Can I please join you on all of theses adventures that NEED to happen!? Please and thank you.

Go skydiving again!? I would love to go for a first time! I love your bucket list though. I have wanted a golden retriever my entire life. Maybe I should have put that on mine!
A few months ago (April 25th to be exact) I posted about my bucket list. If you scroll down a little bit, you can see the post in its entirety and why I chose these things, but here is the list I wrote about:
This week I was asked once again to write a bucket list. Since nothing on it has changed, I’ve decided to take a slightly different approach; it is time for a bucket list update.
Since posting my bucket list I have done many things I am proud of. For the most part, I have kept my word and done almost everything on it.
Numbers 1 through 4 have been fairly simple to execute, 5 through 9 however have been somewhat challenging.
There is still a lot to work on in regards to my bucket list, but I’m off to a great start. It’s really never ending when you think about it…a never ending bucket list. .
